Cutanplast®

Gelatin Sponge Haemostats

Cutanplast® is a range of sterile re-absorbable gelatin sponge haemostats, used during surgical procedures to stop unwanted bleeding. Cutanplast® haemostats come in 10 easy-to-modify formats, suitable for a range of surgical disciplines. Cutanplast® produces a powerful haemostatic effect, generating haemostasis in 5 – 10 minutes and can absorb up to 50 times its own weight in blood.

Our Range of Gelatin Sponge Haemostats

Superior Haemostatic Performance

The Cutanplast® range of haemostats are highly biocompatible, reliable and effective. The gelatin sponge haemostats can be soaked in sterile physiological solution or with antibiotics. The haemostat range comes in 10 formats, but the products can be cut with sterile scissors to be shaped to suit the surgical requirement. Cutanplast® is used in a wide range of surgical disciplines including General Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, ENT Surgery, Spinal Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Neurosurgery and more.

Cutanplast® Video

Cutanplast® provides an effective haemostatic action, typically achieving haemostasis within 5–10 minutes. Its highly absorbent structure allows it to take up as much as 50 times its own weight in blood. The porous gelatin surface promotes rapid platelet disruption and activation, initiating the enzymatic cascade that supports the body’s natural coagulation process.

Cutanplast® is classified as a Class III implantable medical device and may be safely left in place following application. It is completely absorbed by the body, with full dissolution generally occurring within 3–4 weeks.

Cutanplast® Standard

Cutanplast® Standard, Small and Large are absorbable gelatin haemostatic sponges designed to provide flexible haemostasis across a wide range of surgical applications. The porous gelatin structure supports platelet adhesion and coagulation, helping to control capillary, venous and arteriolar bleeding when conventional haemostatic techniques are impractical or insufficient. The different dimensions allow the surgeon to select an appropriate format for the bleeding surface, from smaller operative sites to broad areas of parenchymal tissue. Standard is particularly suited to parenchymal and thoracic procedures, including liver and spleen surgery, operative liver biopsy, thyroid surgery, vagotomy, cholecystectomy and bleeding associated with thoracic procedures.

  • Three sizes provide flexibility for small, standard and larger bleeding surfaces, while the sponge can also be cut to the required shape without crumbling.
  • Highly absorbent gelatin structure supports local coagulation and is suitable for controlling capillary, venous and arteriolar bleeding where conventional haemostatic methods cannot readily be used.
